Clinical Competence: Assessing Entry-to-Practice (2019)

Presented By Susan J. Wagner, B.Sc. (SPA), M.Sc. (CD), Reg. CASLPO, S-LP(C) & Lynn Ellwood, B.Sc. (CD), M.H.Sc., MBA, Reg. CASLPO, S-LP(C)

Clinical competence is essential to the quality of speech-language pathology and audiology services. New national competency profiles specify the essential entry-to-practice competencies required in the professions. Similarly, competency-based frameworks have become the trend in health sciences education.

As a result, the Canadian Academic Coordinators of Clinical Education developed the Canadian Assessment of Clinical Competence (ACC-SLP/AUD) to assess student performance in clinical placements for all Canadian universities.

After this interactive webinar, participants will be able to:

  • describe the trend towards competency-based education;
  • explain the concepts of competency-based assessment; and
  • apply competency-based assessment principles using examples from the new national student performance assessment tool.

Access to SAC webinars and webcasts is an exclusive benefit of SAC membership.
