The Role of the S-LP in Palliative Care: An Overview and Interactive Discussion (2018)

Présenté par Jennifer Wong, M.H.Sc, S-LP(C) Reg. CASLPO; Laura Conway, M.Sc.(A), S-LP(C), Reg. CASLPO

The role of the speech-language pathologist in palliative care has been ill-defined and unclear, prompting SAC to develop a position statement outlining the roles of the professions as essential parts of the palliative care team. This seminar will explore what palliative care means, the role of the S-LP in the multidisciplinary team, common myths and misperceptions and common concerns that arise concerning swallowing and communication impairments.

Learning Objectives

Participants will:

  • increase their knowledge of the palliative care philosophy;
  • practice skills related to discussing palliative care issues; and
  • share experiences, challenges, and strategies that clinicians may encounter when providing palliative care.
